Dr. Kaustav Bhowmick

Research Interests
Dr. Kaustav Bhowmick specializes in the field of Photonic devices, materials and Optical technology. Post-PhD (University of Nottingham, UK, 2013), he has worked as Assistant Professor, in National Institute of Technology, Sikkim (2013-2015) and Amrita School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwavidyapeetham Deemed University, Bengaluru (2016-2019). During the said period, Dr. Bhowmick has been instrumental in setting up Photonics Research Laboratory, MoUs with national and international universities, supervising UG, PG and PhD students and research in national and international journals and conferences. His project students have been recruited in well-known international and national universities and in companies like Bosch. Dr. Bhowmick has done research with some well-known names in Photonics, both in India and abroad. Currently, in PES University, his target is to drive research in photonics and related quantum technologies, preferably in an interdisciplinary manner.

Dr. Shashidhara M is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at PES University, Bengaluru. His research focuses on spintronics, semiconductor devices, emerging non-volatile memories, logic-in-memory architectures, TCAD simulation, and AI hardware accelerators. He has published in leading IEEE journals, including IEEE TCAD and IEEE TED, and is the Principal Investigator of an ANRF PM-ECRG funded research project on SOT-MTJ-based stochastic hardware for energy-efficient AI.

Dr. Sayyed Arif Ali

Dr. Sayyed Arif Ali is an Assistant Professor at PES University with over 12 years of teaching and research experience. He obtained his Ph.D. in Electronics Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University in 2024, specializing in Low-Cost Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) Antennas. His core expertise lies in Electromagnetics and Antennas, focusing on SIW, MIMO, wearable, and multifunctional antennas for modern wireless systems. He is the Founder and Faculty Advisor of the IEEE APS Student Branch Chapter at PES University and an elevated IEEE Senior Member. Dr. Sayyed Arif Ali has authored 15 publications across reputed journals and conferences, including IEEE Access and MDPI Sensors. He has secured multiple internal research grants for projects related to stealth applications and flexible MIMO multiband antennas.

Dr. Shagun Gupta specializes in biosensing, lab-on-chip diagnostics, biomedical signal processing, and AI-enabled healthcare technologies. She obtained her Ph.D. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, J&K, in 2021, with doctoral research in biosensing and lab-on-chip diagnostic technologies. Prior to joining PES University as an Assistant Professor in 2024, she worked with PATH (Program for Appropriate Technology in Health), contributing to digital health platforms, laboratory informatics, healthcare workflow optimization, and public health technology implementation. Her research spans biosensors, wearable biomedical devices, Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), intelligent sensing systems, and AI/ML-enabled healthcare solutions. She has published in reputed international journals, including Biosensors and Bioelectronics, IEEE Access, Results in Engineering, and Discover Nano. Her research interests include interdisciplinary applications of AI/ML, intelligent biosensing, neuromorphic computing, and quantum-enabled technologies for next-generation healthcare diagnostics and precision medicine.

Chaithra T. S. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. Her research interests include Integrated Photonics, III–V material based Electro-Optic modulators and optical communication systems.

Dr. Arpita Thakre obtained her Ph.D. from the EE Dept, IIT Madras in Wireless Communication. She has worked as a researcher in TU, Ilmenau, Germany, and spent four years in Fabless Semiconductor Companies before transitioning to academia in 2016. Joining PES University in 2020, her primary focus is teaching and research. She teaches Wireless Communication and Machine Learning, and conducts research in SNN, RL, Deep RL, ML, and DL with applications in Wireless Systems and Robotics. She is also in charge of the Automation & Robotics Centre of Excellence (ARC) at PES.
